We live in a world where funding is tight and organizations have to prioritize where they invest. Organizations are constantly cutting back and trying to “Do More With Less”. In such an environment, it is a challenge for Project Managers to propose new solutions that improves the Business Process. How do we implement changes without impacting the budget?
Change Control is prevalent in all organizations and normally the business units that have the largest presence (also the loudest voice) get all their changes implement. Project Managers need to analyze all change control requests and weigh their importance effectively. How we manage change requests in our project? How do we do this without implementing new solutions that will indirectly impact the budget? How do we prioritize change requests and meet all organization goals?
Project Managers need to go back to the basics and develop solutions using the tools available. I developed a simple Change Control Tool tha aligns the change request to the goals of the organization. This tool is currently being used by a program at a federal agency. Although there are many sophisticated tools available in the market, we implemented a simple tool (using Microsoft Excel) with no additional costs (this was very important during the budget cuts at the federal agencies). This simple, yet effective tool, developed and implemented at a federal agency will be presented.
