About the Course

Managing projects requires multiple skills.  The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) clearly outlines the technical processes for successful project completion; but refers project managers to general management theory for more detail on effective management of project teams. This seminar  addresses the human factors skills and practices that contribute to effective management of project teams.

During this two-day seminar, participants will explore the art of coordinating the activities of others to accomplish a specific goal in a variety of project environments.  Through lecture, case studies, and experiential activities, participants will review and expand their expertise in the following areas:

  • Developing rapport with all stakeholder groups
  • Clarifying the roles and responsibilities of core project team members
  • Refining the Communications Management Plan as part of the Project Plan
  • Encouraging the “best” performance from each team member

By presenting examples from case studies or from their current projects, participants will be able to brainstorm solutions to their immediate project issues and concerns.  Participants will complete a “Team Dimensions Profile” to reveal their own preference in team problem-solving activities, as well as insight into the behavior of their core team members.  Finally, participants will examine conflict resolution strategies in order to broaden their response to the almost inevitable differences of option that occur during project execution.
